Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup

Updated 27th May 2009

The Hospital has opened its website. Also see the new South London Healthcare Trust site

The new Queen Mary's Hospital replaced the original Great War hutted hospital in 1974. It is now a modern district hospital with full acute facilities and is undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment programme.

The hospital's teaching program for undergraduates has been very successful, and it is now designated as an Associated University Hospital of the University of London.

A book about the hospital, produced for the 20th anniversary of the new hospital and covering events from 1917 to 1994, is available on request from the Curator, price £4.00. A new commemorative work, ten years on, is also on sale and contains many anecdotes and photographs across the years. This has been compiled by Iris Presswell and the Curator.

Reconfiguration plans for SE London mean that the hospital has "merged" with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich and the Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough. The new joint organisation is known as the South London Healthcare Trust. The proposal will result in Queen Mary's becoming an elective hospital with the loss of its A&E, paediatric and Maternity departments.
